Mercedes-Benz has branded as “inappropriate” an advertisement featuring a C-Class mowing down a young Adolf Hitler.
The 80-second clip was created as a thesis by three German film students, but Mercedes has since forced them to add bold disclaimers that identify the video as unofficial.
The advert, set in the 19th century, shows a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class driving through an Austrian village. The driverless sedan comes across two young girls playing in the road, but its “Collision Prevention Assist” kicks in, preventing what would be a tragic accident.
When a young, kite-flying Adolf Hitler runs into the street, however, the C-Class appears to accelerate, running him down with a thud. Young Adolf’s lifeless body is left splayed out on the ground in the shape of a swastika.
The moral? The Mercedes-Benz driving aid “detects dangers before they come up”.
